This classroom guide for the special traveling exhibition Lincoln: The Constitution and the
Civil War is designed for middle and high school teachers. Lesson plans, developed for
students in eighth grade and beyond, include pre-visit, on-site, and post-visit activities. All
lessons focus on the major themes of the exhibition -- secession, slavery, and civil liberties
in wartime – and are aligned with national standards. The Guide is a product of the
National Constitution Center’s Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach. Its production
has been made possible by a generous grant from Lincoln Financial Group.
