JOHN C. DANFORTH
John C. Danforth has had a long and distinguished career in public service, serving for 18 years in the U.S. Senate, as U.S. Representative to the United Nations, Attorney General of Missouri, and as a celebrated lawyer and envoy. He is also an ordained Episcopal minister.
Danforth was elected Attorney General of Missouri in 1968 in his first race for public office. He was re-elected Attorney General in 1972. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1976 and re-elected in 1982 and 1988. In September, 1999, Danforth was appointed Special Counsel by Attorney General Janet Reno to investigate the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. He also served as Special Envoy for Peace to Sudan to help end the ongoing civil war between northern and southern Sudanese.
