ALBERTO IBARGUEN
Alberto Ibarguen was elected president and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in 2005. He is the former publisher of The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. He was a newspaper executive for more than 20 years, first at the Hartford Courant, and then at Newsday, before moving to Miami.
Ibarguen is chairman of the board of the Newseum in Washington DC and serves on the Trustees Council of the National Gallery of Art, the Advisory Council of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the Council on Foreign Relations. He was chairman of the Public Broadcasting Service and the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, and received a Maria Moors Cabot citation from Columbia University for his work to protect journalists in Latin America.
