STUDENTS & EDUCATORS
A dozen high school journalists from throughout Pennsylvania, along with their faculty advisors, were selected to participate in the Peter Jennings Project for Journalists and the Constitution in 2007.
A lesson plan, based on the topics of the Project, has been created and posted for free downloading for teachers to use.
The 2007 Student Fellows were selected through an application process in which they were asked to write 500 words on why they would be ideal candidates for the Project and what they hope to bring back to their school following the conference. The applications were sent out by invitation only to schools with a high level of participation in PennCORD, the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative Democracy . The students met and worked with prominent professional journalists, and learned more about the relationship between the press and the Constitution. During the conference, students had the opportunity to share their experiences in their high schools, discuss court cases, and listen to moot courts and debates. The students’ participation this year was made possible by PennCORD, of which the Constitution Center is one of four lead partners and serves as the managing partner.
