Rising stars in the Democratic and Republican parties, Ezra Klein and Reihan Salam join the National Constitution Center to reflect on the results of the presidential election and to look ahead at what the new president will do once in office. Combining their different ideological views, Klein and Salam will analyze the voting results to see what campaign strategies worked or failed and what factors swayed voters in the weeks leading up to the election. They will also discuss how the new president will influence policy, his party and the balance of power between the executive and legislature. Furthermore, Klein and Salam will discuss the direction in which the new president wants to lead the country. David Mark, senior editor at Politico.com, moderates.
Ezra Klein is an associate editor at The American Prospect. A graduate of UCLA, Klein gained visibility in politics after starting his first blog and working for Howard Dean’s primary campaign while still enrolled in school. In addition to The American Prospect, his work has appeared in the Washington Monthly, LA Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Slate and The New Republic. Klein also frequently appears as a commentator for MSNBC, CNN, and NPR and maintains a blog for The American Prospect.
Reihan Salam is an associate editor at The Atlantic Monthly and a fellow at the New America Foundation. A graduate of Harvard, Salam has previously served as a producer for NBC News, junior editor of the New York Times, and a reporter-researcher at The New Republic. He recently co-authored the book Grand New Party: How Conservatives Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream, with Ross Douthat, and is a regular contributor to The Weekly Standard, Slate and “The American Scene” blog. In a column in the New York Times, David Brooks described Salam as one of the "most promising" new conservatives and described his book as "the best single roadmap of where the [Republican] party should and is likely to head."
David Mark is a senior editor at Politico. He is also author of Going Dirty: The Art of Negative Campaigning. He was formerly editor-in-chief of Campaigns & Elections magazine, which covers the business and trends of politics.
