The National Constitution Center and the Gallup Organization co-sponsored a "school" for journalists at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on public opinion polling on Thursday, August 19, 2004. The three-part program consisted of a nitty-gritty session on polling procedures and ethics and a conversation about how political campaigns use and spin polls, and how journalists respond to the spin. This panel discussion was moderated by National Constitution Center President and CEO Richard Stengel and included Ryan Lizza, White House correspondent for The New Republic; Jake Tapper of ABC News; Jim Jordan, director of Americans Coming Together and former campaign manager of the John Kerry for President campaign; and Kim Alfano, a leading Republican political consultant. The journalists also heard from Dr. Frank Newport, Editor-in-Chief of the Gallup Poll, on the significance of polling, based on his new book, Polling Matters. The program will air on C-SPAN throughout August, (check the c-span website, www.c-span.org). Related organizations: The Gallup Organization  and the National Press Club.
